pick up campaign contribution check. the judge had very strong words for john leopold. he said that it was an egregious failure on leopold's part and he should have known better. you can't take part in political activity during the working hours. it's clearly inappropriate and called it wrongful and illegal. the judge said that the command staff of the police department failed. there was a lot of testimony that everything he asked the detension detail to do went up the chief of command. that the chief of police knew about of course. the fact that they didn't step in and stop it was wrong and as for count three in this indictment, it was for misfees an in office and misconduct in office. the allegations included what you may have heard was that the executive protection detail was taking leopold to trysts with a county employee in the parking lot in the bowling alley in annapolis. the injuries that was not misconduct in office but what he found was egregious and misconduct in office was the fact that john leopold ordered and required his staff to empty -- empty his catheter bag after

news tonight. would trials, two guilty verdicts. anne arundel county executive john leopold accused of misconduct and former culpeper, virginia, police officer daniel harmon-wright. accused of murder. we begin with a guilty verdict for harmon-wright. >> reporter: it took jury nine hours to reach their verdict. it came shortly after 4:00 today and the defendant, daniel harmon-wright sat emotionless. his wife was in tears. one of the jurors also crying. 30 minutes later harmon-wright was escorted in handcuffs to the jail. jury of eight women and four men convicted him of voluntary manslaughter. he was also found guilty of two other charges, involuntary man slaughter and unlawfully shooting into a motor vehicle. it steps from an incident at a catholic school where he shot and killed patricia cook. harmon-wright pep pled self-defense. the jury didn't believe. >> it it is important for the court to send a message. in this case, i felt like it was unjustified from the very beginning. the only question was what grade of mom side was it. i'm going the ask the court for a significant penalty to

want to show everybody, we just got this video in, senator john kerry's nomination for secretary of state, unanimously approved by voice vote on the senate foreign relations committee floor during the meeting that they had today. so that is moving forward now. the full senate expected to vote on kerry's nomination later today. but, again, smooth waters there for what looks like to be the next secretary of state, john kerry. so, again, that vote coming up this afternoon. we do want to move on, though, and talk about who will now be considered the former secretary of state after the vote this afternoon, hillary clinton. she had an opportunity to speak about what it's like to be living in such a bipartisan world of washington, d.c., right now. again, her farewell week has been really one of high aplomb, but take a look at this. >> but it's become more so, and it's also resulted in less productivity, you know? you can be partisan, you can have a strong sense of the rightness of your position, but democracy and certainly legislative bodies require compromise. and you can't let compromise

legs. a quadruple amputee but thanks to doctors at johns hopkins he has arms again and if you are wondering how that is possible, linda so is live with more on how doctors performed this really amazing but complex transplant. linda. >> reporter: it's so complex. it took 13 hours. this is the first time that hopkins has performed a double arm transplant and later this morning, we will get to meet the soldier and the surgeon behind it all. a news conference is scheduled for 11 this morning. this is video from before the transplant. brendan marrocco is the first sold year to survive after losing all four limbs in the iraq war. he was injured by a roadside bomb in 2009. he underwent the complex transplant last month. it involves connecting bones, blood vessels and muscles and nerves and skin on both arms. the surgery involved an innovative treatment that used the dead donor's bone marrow cells to help prevent his body from rejecting the new limbs. the 13 hour operation was led by dr. andrew lee, the plastic surgery chief here at hopkins. marrocco is one of seven u.s. soldiers to recei
